Australian National University, Military History and Heritage Victoria and the Returned & Services League of Australia: Two-day Conference 12 - 13 May 2017: Monash Centre, Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane: War in the Sandpit - Perspectives and Lessons from Australia's War in Afghanistan and Iraq 2001 - 2014. Few, if any, envisaged that Australia's campaign in Iraq and Afghanistan would turn out to be our longest war. With the official history of the conflicts some years away, this conference will undertake a preliminary analysis of this significant period. What happened? How well did we understand the nature of the fight? Why did we contribute the way we did? Were there other viable approaches? Did we add value? What lessons can we learn? Download the flyer to find out more and register.
